About the event

What strange and unusual things has the museum gathered over the last 130+ years? We are so glad you asked! Just in time for the spooky season and cooler weather, we present to you Oddities! Learn about the tradition of relic collecting, Victorian mourning customs, our alarmingly varied poisoned arrow selection, and the wide range of peculiar objects we've been storing in the back room.

The museum will open at 6pm. Explore our standing exhibits and wander through the ever-changing upper display room. Then join us for a presentation by Jonathan and Matthew Gulyas regarding the surprisingly numerous ghost towns that dot our beautiful county.

After the Athens Business Association Halloween Parade and Fall Festival (noon to 4), grab some dinner, and then venture on down to the museum for an exclusive peek at TPM After Dark: Oddities! This is part two of our new series: An Evening of Local…

ABOUT US >

The Tioga Point Museum was founded in January 1895 as the Tioga Point Historical Society. The purpose of the museum as stated in the original incorporation was: "To collect and procure relics and records of local and general interest to the former and present inhabitants of Athens and vicinity; to collect and procure genealogical records of the first settlers and their descendants; and to provide proper care for, the preservation of the relics and records so collected by the maintenance of a museum where they are placed."  Over 130 years later, the Tioga Point Museum continues to live out that purpose.
